The Wildlife is the Free Zone

By Anastasia Papis

Try to imagine yourself in an enclosed space with no freedom, no food to hunt and no family members. This is how animals in zoos and aquariums feel. They are held in captivity and don’t even understand what it is like to be in the wild, their natural home. To take an animal out of the wild is immoral, and should only be done if that animal is dying. Zoos and aquariums are conservationists, and try to save the wildlife, but I believe they should be left free and alone, where they are meant to be, because it can make things worse for their daily lives.

The food chain is an important cycle to all animals, and when living in a zoo or aquarium, they don’t have the right to hunt, and they live off of the food the people there give them. This can be a total change for an animal that has been in the wild all their life, such as a wild cheetah that lives off of other animals. Changing an animals adaptations and habitat makes it more difficult for an animal to understand its new surrounding.

WJPS Environmental Club Cleans Up

By Gisselle Bonilla

“The club stared out slow but I think we are staring to accomplish a lot. I am proud of the progress my club members have made. I hope next year we pick up the pace and accomplish even more,” Environmental Club president Melissa Iachetta says.

Club members have also stared to sort through papers from recycle bins picking out garbage and making sure the paper is placed appropriately.

“I believe it is very necessary to do what me and Melissa are doing, many people don’t know how to properly recycle so they mix paper with trash. Me, Melissa, and other members of the club go around every wensday sorting the garbage from the bottle and paper bins,” sophomore and club member Karen Castaneda says.

Students Are Getting Grades They Don't Deserve

By Sarah Bianci

Some teachers say that when students work in a group it makes things easier and the kids learn more. But is this really true? Are students really learning more or are they just getting a stomach ache from the anxiety of having to catch up on somebody else’s work.
When teachers give back grades for a group assignment, some students see a good grade and say “it was an easy “A” I barely had to do any work”, while other students get their work back after spending hours of time on it and get a sense of accomplishment. Which do you think is the better feeling?
